Spain is all about light, it's all about contrasts, and it's
all about sensuality ... art, food, colors, passion. It has even been
referred to as a state of mind. Yes, it's all this and more. Visitors love to stay, hate to leave.
Spain has a long, eventful past. As a wealthy province of the Roman Empire,
Spain's prosperity rose partly because it is a projecting peninsula of Europe
guarding the narrow seaway -– the straits of Gibraltar -- between the
Mediterranean and the Atlantic. This geography has shaped its story down through
the centuries. A fabulous three centuries of riches and conquest began when
Queen Isabella financed Columbus' Atlantic voyage in 1492. The Spanish presence
is everywhere in the New World and beyond. From Florida to Argentina, from
California to the Philippines ... you'll find Spanish names and Spanish-speaking citizens.
Spain has emerged triumphantly from a period of political turmoil that lasted
for most of the 20th century. The economic uncertainties that most of the world
has experienced in recent years haven't affected the incredible beauty of the
country. And they haven't interfered with the Spanish genius for appreciating
the good things in life, or with the splendid food, arts, and everyday pleasures
that we'll find in our visit to two of the country's greatest cities --
Barcelona and Madrid. Arriving in early October of 2014 (the most desirable time
to visit) and staying at deluxe accommodations, we'll enjoy truly unbelievable
architecture and art, serenely beautiful parks, vivacious shopping boulevards,
and some of the best food in Europe. Those who choose the 3-day optional
extension to Tenerife in the Canary Islands will explore a fascinating and
perpetually blooming haven among vistas of mountain and sea, while luxuriating
at the island's premier resort hotel.
It's a Carpenter vacation, so all details have been taken care of -- all you have to do is have a wonderful time!
